Availability:

Screenbook Maker BETA 0.9 is now available.

Partial Feature List of version 0.9:

  • Automatically capture text and take a snapshot of the screen.
  • Built-in WYSIWIG HTML editor.
  • Create HTML Screenbooks in multiple designs and formats. HTML Screenbooks are standard HTML with PNG files and can be viewed with any 4+ browser (Netscape 4+, IE 4+, and Opera have been tested. Older browsers can't display PNG files.)
  • Automatically generate tables of contents and search pages.
  • Edit existing Screenbooks.
  • Print Screenbooks.
  • Organize and view Screenbooks. Sort Screenbooks by topic and subtopic, view with built-in browser.
  • Search: powerful search capabilities including search by regular expression.
  • XML/XSL: Screenbooks are generated as XML files, all other output is generated via XSL files. Edit an XSL file or add a new one to completely customize any aspect of a Screenbook or create a new Screenbook format.
  • Floating arrows, numbered arrows: capture screens with indicators.
  • Send by email: Screenbook Maker zips the Screenbook files and attaches them to an email. When the email is received, the zipped Screenbook can be dragged and dropped on to Screenbook Maker. Screenbook Maker automatically unzips the file and integrates it into the client bookshelf.
  • Multiple Bookshelves: create sets of Screenbooks with different characteristics and different topic categories, choose a different set of XSL files for each set.
  • XSL files included to generate Screenbooks Table of Contents (for bookshelf), Client-Side search, Screenbook Table of Contents (listing of title of each page in an invidual Screenbook) and other supporting pages.

Features in development:

  • PDF, RTF and TIF output.
  • RSS and RDF support.
  • Interactive mode and publishing integrated with Screenbooks.net website.
  • View and download remote screenbooks and bookshelves from within Screenbook Maker.

Screenbook Maker System Requirements:

Requires Win98/NT/2000 + Internet Explorer 5.5 to run. Screenbooks created with Screenbook Maker do NOT require IE5.

Screenbook System Requirements:

To view a screenbook, you need a browser capable of displaying PNG files. The following browsers have been tested:

  • Netscape 4, Netscape 6
  • Internet Explorer 4, Internet Explorer 5 (NOTE: Macintosh requires IE 5, because IE4 on the Mac does not support PNG files).
  • Opera 3.6. (Note: some of the default XSL templates for Screenbooks attach Javascript scripts to a screenbook version. Opera 3.6 does not support Javascript 1.2 so these scripts will not run. However, the books are still viewable. The scripts which don't run provide supporting functions such as client side search.)
